Bringing baby to Guam

08/02/2017 by Dr Donna Chow 1 Comment
A day at the beach

In my earlier post – Bringing baby to Tokyo, I mentioned that I was transiting in Tokyo and on my way to Guam. It took us 6.5 hours to fly to Tokyo, and another 3 hours to fly to Guam. I got to learn about this beautiful U.S. territory in the western Pacific Ocean after first … [Read more…]

Bringing baby to Tokyo

Outside the entrance to Sanrio Puroland

We were looking forward to our year end holiday to Tokyo + Guam last December. Tokyo has always been a popular travel destination for Singaporeans largely because of its developed infrastructure, friendly people and high standards on food, safety and hygiene. We have planned to visit Sanrio Puroland and Tokyo Disneyland during our three day transit to Guam. No shopping … [Read more…]

10 common mistakes made by first time maid employers

16/01/2017 by Dr Donna Chow 2 Comments
A broken ornament caused by a careless helper

Not too long ago, I shared my “10 commandments on hiring a maid” on facebook and it generated quite a lot of feedback from both supporters and naysayers. Majority – I would say, supported my views; while a minority claimed that the list was too harsh. After gathering feedback on these 10 commandments, I decided to rewrite these rules in more palatable … [Read more…]

Will a good primary school make a difference?

31/12/2016 by Dr Donna Chow Leave a Comment
Going to school

A recent conversation with a fellow parent triggered some thought provoking questions to my mind. We were sharing some tips on primary school admission – her child was 3 years old and mine was a few months short of 2 years. Both of us agreed that a good primary school would have a significant impact on the child’s future and not all schools are … [Read more…]

A story of The Three Muttsketeers

After many months of preparation and hard work, my first children’s book titled “The Three Muttsketeers” is ready for the shelves! It is not without trepidation as I venture into this book project with a lot of naysayers telling me that self publishing is not an easy task. I have forwarded my manuscripts to countless illustrators … [Read more…]

Baby's first cruise

Recently, we bought cruise tickets for Royal Carribean – Mariner of the Seas and sailed in mid October. This is baby’s first cruise, and our first cruise with Royal Carribean as well. In the past, we have sailed with Superstar cruises, which has been around for many years. After hearing positive reviews on Royal Carribean, we … [Read more…]

Happy without a maid

Happy without a maid

Not too long ago, I wrote a post on surviving 25 days without a domestic helper. Little would I have known that barely 2 months after the arrival of my third domestic helper, I would be without a maid again. Perhaps I have exceedingly high expectations of the roles and duties of a domestic helper. I … [Read more…]

The Terrible Two

30/09/2016 by Dr Donna Chow Leave a Comment
The little man in swim suit

Recently, Ah Boy, as what we have affectionately called him, has been showing signs of The Terrible Two. He is no longer the baby who give us no trouble and sits quietly to play his “car car” in the baby cot. One fine night, he attempted a circus stunt and fell head long onto the floor because he refused … [Read more…]

Freeze the flab on your tummy?

20/09/2016 by Dr Donna Chow Leave a Comment
Fitting into pre-pregnancy jeans is every mother's secret desire

Fat freezing (or cryolipolysis) has been around for many years. It originates from an interesting observation that kids develop dimples when they eat too much ice popsicles – the low temperature freezes away the subcutaneous fats underneath the skin. So these clever guys at Harvard developed a machine to freeze the fat cells in our unwanted areas, with … [Read more…]

Doodling on the whiteboard

I believe many parents are willing to invest in good quality toys to stimulate a child’s learning and creativity at an early age. When I shop for toys, I often find myself asking these few questions; Do I already have something similar to this toy? Will it add to the clutter in my house? Can he still … [Read more…]

We attended his graduation ceremony, watch him collect his scroll on stage and perform with the rest of his classmates. 铭哲长大了!
We had a short getaway at Koh Samui during the school holidays. In this video, we did go-karting, went on dolphin cruise, sea snorkeling, fed the elephants and had roof riding for the first time.
We ventured to the Bhutan - Land of Happiness - to seek answers to a good life. In this video, we visited notable monasteries in Bhutan, sampled local cuisine, did fruit picking, took part in white water rafting at the rapids, trekked to Tiger's Nest Monastery and enjoyed a hot stone bath.
I will give you a tour of my backyard and the edibles I grow in my garden.

This includes a papaya tree planted in a pot, watermelon plant with baby fruits, my crop of cabbage, my lime plant, chilli padi plants, cherry tomato plants, popular herbs such as rosemary, sweet basil and mint.

Not to forget my hardy sweet potato leaves which I harvest weekly to cook sambal chilli with.

Maintaining an edible garden can be both hard work and fun.
