Ah Bee turns ten

04/09/2019 by Dr Donna Chow Leave a Comment
10 golden years

In the blink of an eye, Ah Bee is now officially 10 years old. If you have owned a dog, you would probably know that one year of a dog's life is almost equivalent to 7 years of human's life. That would mean that our dear Bee, whom we have raised since he was a three month old puppy, is now a grandfather of 70 years. He has spent most of his life waiting for us to go home, play with him and take him out for walks. It isn't easy to be him. He can't find his friends when he misses them, he can't make decisions for himself and his whole life revolves around nobody but us. So, to celebrate his Click to read more

Shopping for a new baby: 10 lessons from a second-time mum

21/10/2017 by Dr Donna Chow Leave a Comment
Shopping for new baby

As a first time mum 3 years ago, I was completely overwhelmed with shopping for baby #1. I sourced for checklists online and bought "almost" everything I could find. And I was so worried about missing out anything. But now, with #2, I have become more chilled and relaxed about shopping, especially when my first trimester was rather complicated. I started looking around the baby stuff only in the second trimester, around 24 weeks, when I was more certain that things would be looking brighter. This time round, I am also more cautious about the "over-buying" phenomenon and strategise on my Click to read more

Is Taobao Ezbuy Prime for you?

11/03/2017 by Dr Donna Chow 2 Comments
Are you paying too much for your online shopping?

If you are a habitual online shopper, you would have come across Taobao - the largest and most comprehensive e-commerce platform in China. Many Singaporeans shop on Taobao and ship in their purchases either using the 4 main Taobao international parcel forwarding services (4PX, DPEX, DEX and PRouter) or through Ezbuy Ship-for-me / Prime (formerly known as 65daigou). A brief overview of these two services: (1) Taobao International Parcel Forwarding (TIPF) is the method which I have used most often. You download the Taobao App onto your mobile or access the Taobao website on your desktop. With Click to read more

His favourite bench

It has been a while since I host a giveaway. The last one was at Christmas when I gave away 3 storybooks to 3 lovely mummies. I hope they enjoy reading the story as much as I love writing it. And thank you to Save Our Street Dogs and Causes for Animals Singapore for helping me mention my book on their facebook pages. Currently, I am trying to make an animated show of the book and post it on YouTube. That is why I have recently started a YouTube channel to share some of my videos as well - I am still picking up video editing skills; check out this video in which Ah Bee showcases some of his dog Click to read more

Bringing baby to Guam

08/02/2017 by Dr Donna Chow 1 Comment
A day at the beach

In my earlier post - Bringing baby to Tokyo, I mentioned that I was transiting in Tokyo and on my way to Guam. It took us 6.5 hours to fly to Tokyo, and another 3 hours to fly to Guam. I got to learn about this beautiful U.S. territory in the western Pacific Ocean after first watching it on a Taiwanese Travel documentary show. It was a popular destination for many Japanese, Koreans and Taiwanese, but unexplored by most Singaporeans. Those hard core Korean drama addicts may have heard of this dreamy island because it is commonly featured as a favourite place for couples to get hitched. In Click to read more

My Royal Carribean Cruise Review

01/11/2016 by Dr Donna Chow Leave a Comment
Baby's first cruise

Recently, we bought cruise tickets for Royal Carribean - Mariner of the Seas and sailed in mid October. This is baby's first cruise, and our first cruise with Royal Carribean as well. In the past, we have sailed with Superstar cruises, which has been around for many years. After hearing positive reviews on Royal Carribean, we decided to give it a try. Babies and toddlers are not given discounts on the Royal Carribean Cruises. They are usually counted as a third passenger in the same cabin. We booked the cruise tickets at a recent promotion for 1.7K (5D 4N, 2 adults, 1 baby) for a deluxe Click to read more

Sponsored Giveaway – Janod 4 in 1 Magic Suitcase

Doodling on the whiteboard

I believe many parents are willing to invest in good quality toys to stimulate a child's learning and creativity at an early age. When I shop for toys, I often find myself asking these few questions; Do I already have something similar to this toy? Will it add to the clutter in my house? Can he still use it a few years down the road? Will he learn something from this toy? I tend to be more selective on his toys as I think most kids outgrow their toys very quickly. So when My Miracle Baby approached me for a review one of their products, I didn't choose the biggest and most Click to read more

Wake up to yummy golden brown pancakes

Recently, I have been tasked to write a short recipe for Nestlé CERELAC® Baby Cereal. The idea of making golden brown pancakes instantly came to my mind. Babies love yummy and fluffy pancakes! And I love them too. But I have never made pancakes from scratch. Pancake mix is readily available at supermarkets - making pancakes from your own recipe is definitely going to be a challenge for me! I scoured the internet for online recipes and tweaked some of the ingredients. I want a simple recipe that is not too complicated and easily replicated. So here goes! Hand carry expressed breast milk on Singapore Airlines

17/08/2016 by Dr Donna Chow 8 Comments
My boy enjoying his milk

Recently I returned from a work trip to Bangkok. Initially, I was quite reluctant to travel alone because I was still pumping breast milk religiously three times a day. I was afraid of leaving my comfort zone and having to deal with a strange environment. Though it was a short 3 day training workshop cum conference, I was worried whether I have the time to continue expressing my breast milk at the hotel and bringing my breast milk home. Different immigration customs and airlines have different policies on carrying liquids on flight. I assume breast milk is no exception. It would be a Click to read more

How to clean rainbow stains on steel pots

05/08/2016 by Dr Donna Chow Leave a Comment
Looking like new

It is a misnomer that stainless steel should be called "stainless". Anyone who has used stainless steel pots and pans would know that after repeated use, you will get rainbow stains on the bottom. These cloudy discoloration can be a result of a combination of high heat from your stove and food residue being stuck to the steel. Here is a kitchen knack which I have discovered online and it works pretty well for me. I use this WMF stainless steel wok for daily stir fry and it is one of my favourite. It has several stains on the bottom and it looks really horrible. No amount of scrubbing Click to read more

My clarinet version of our NDP song by Kit Chan. Finally reunited with my clarinet after being apart for nearly a quarter of a century.
Pardon me for my rusty skills. Decided to pick it up again during the circuit breaker period.

Attached with the full lyrics:

Home - Kit Chan
Whenever I am feeling low
I look around me and I know
There's a place that will stay within me
Wherever I may choose to go
I will always recall the city
Know every street and shore
Sail down the river which brings us life
Winding through my Singapore
This is home truly, where I know I must be
Where my dreams wait for me, where the river always flows
This is home surely, as my senses tell me
This is where I won't be alone, for this is where I know it's home
When there are troubles to go through
We'll find a way to start anew
There is comfort in the knowledge
That home's about its people too
So we'll build our dreams together
Just like we've done before
Just like the river which brings us life
There'll always be Singapore
This is home truly, where I know I must be
Where my dreams wait for me, where the river always flows
This is home surely, as my senses tell me
This is where I won't be alone, for this is where I know it's home
This is home truly, where I know I must be
Where my dreams wait for me, where the river always flows
This is home surely, as my senses tell me
This is where I won't be alone, for this is where I know it's home
For this is where I know it's home
For this is where I know I'm home
