Giveaway – 3 in 1 children study desk with storage

His favourite bench

It has been a while since I host a giveaway. The last one was at Christmas when I gave away 3 storybooks to 3 lovely mummies. I hope they enjoy reading the story as much as I love writing it. And thank you to Save Our Street Dogs and Causes for Animals Singapore for helping me mention my book on their facebook pages. Currently, I am trying to make an animated show of the book and post it on YouTube. That is why I have recently started a YouTube channel to share some of my videos as well - I am still picking up video editing skills; check out this video in which Ah Bee showcases some of his dog Click to read more

Will a good primary school make a difference?

31/12/2016 by Dr Donna Chow Leave a Comment
Going to school

A recent conversation with a fellow parent triggered some thought provoking questions to my mind. We were sharing some tips on primary school admission - her child was 3 years old and mine was a few months short of 2 years. Both of us agreed that a good primary school would have a significant impact on the child's future and not all schools are made equal - despite what the higher authorities would like us to think. How would you explain that there are primary schools with a lower aggregate cut-off for their affiliated secondary schools? And why are some children given priority to go to their Click to read more

Christmas Giveaway – NTUC vouchers and Children’s Book

A story of The Three Muttsketeers

After many months of preparation and hard work, my first children's book titled "The Three Muttsketeers" is ready for the shelves! It is not without trepidation as I venture into this book project with a lot of naysayers telling me that self publishing is not an easy task. I have forwarded my manuscripts to countless illustrators and publishers, with many of them turning their heads away. It has been a difficult journey for a first-time children's book author like me. This is a tale which revolves around the friendship of three dogs - the protagonist being my pet dog "Ah Bee".  In an Click to read more

Freeze the flab on your tummy?

20/09/2016 by Dr Donna Chow Leave a Comment
Fitting into pre-pregnancy jeans is every mother's secret desire

Fat freezing (or cryolipolysis) has been around for many years. It originates from an interesting observation that kids develop dimples when they eat too much ice popsicles - the low temperature freezes away the subcutaneous fats underneath the skin. So these clever guys at Harvard developed a machine to freeze the fat cells in our unwanted areas, with minimal damage and trauma to the overlying skin. Coolsculpting (name of the machine for fat freezing) was born. Cryolipolysis is a medical jargon. Cryo- stands for freezing; lipo stands for fat and lysis means to break down.  Does it work? - I Click to read more

Sponsored Giveaway – Janod 4 in 1 Magic Suitcase

Doodling on the whiteboard

I believe many parents are willing to invest in good quality toys to stimulate a child's learning and creativity at an early age. When I shop for toys, I often find myself asking these few questions; Do I already have something similar to this toy? Will it add to the clutter in my house? Can he still use it a few years down the road? Will he learn something from this toy? I tend to be more selective on his toys as I think most kids outgrow their toys very quickly. So when My Miracle Baby approached me for a review one of their products, I didn't choose the biggest and most Click to read more

Do we need to moisturise oily skin?

28/07/2016 by Dr Donna Chow Leave a Comment
A suitable moisturiser for your skin

Many patients with oily skin tell me that they do not use any moisturiser and they are quite happy at that. Then they start to ask me why do they need moisturiser when their skin is already producing oil? "Oh no, I don't use moisturiser. It gives me pimples whenever I use it". Then, they start to look to me for the nod of approval... I know there is a myth out there - people with oily skin do not need moisturiser. And this myth has been circulating around for a very long time. When something gets repeated often enough, you start to believe that it is the truth. To determine if your skin is Click to read more

Pregnant and Fabulous Talk

Speaking at the event

I am delighted to be invited as a speaker for the Pregnant and Fabulous talk organised by Stemcord Singapore and Mount Alvernia Hospital. This event was held at York hotel last Saturday afternoon and was attended by prospective mummies and daddies who wanted to learn more about the journey of being pregnant and looking after their little one. We ended clinic early for that day to rush to the event, which was a seven minute drive away - we navigated our way there with the help of Google maps. Coincidentally, we were dressed in blue without prior arranging with each other. The Click to read more

My First Blog Giveaway – Children Book Rack

13/05/2016 by Dr Donna Chow Leave a Comment
Children's book rack

It is very important to read to babies from an early age. Reading helps to stimulate early brain development and cultivates a passion for lifelong learning. This website shows that babies can understand words even before they learn to speak. In order to start my boy on reading, I bought quite a number of baby books - both fine print ones which I read to him before bedtime as well as large print ones which he can flip on his own. After accumulating so many books, I realise I need to display them nicely on a book rack so that he would find it appealing and would want to reach out for them. All Click to read more

My clarinet version of our NDP song by Kit Chan. Finally reunited with my clarinet after being apart for nearly a quarter of a century.
Pardon me for my rusty skills. Decided to pick it up again during the circuit breaker period.

Attached with the full lyrics:

Home - Kit Chan
Whenever I am feeling low
I look around me and I know
There's a place that will stay within me
Wherever I may choose to go
I will always recall the city
Know every street and shore
Sail down the river which brings us life
Winding through my Singapore
This is home truly, where I know I must be
Where my dreams wait for me, where the river always flows
This is home surely, as my senses tell me
This is where I won't be alone, for this is where I know it's home
When there are troubles to go through
We'll find a way to start anew
There is comfort in the knowledge
That home's about its people too
So we'll build our dreams together
Just like we've done before
Just like the river which brings us life
There'll always be Singapore
This is home truly, where I know I must be
Where my dreams wait for me, where the river always flows
This is home surely, as my senses tell me
This is where I won't be alone, for this is where I know it's home
This is home truly, where I know I must be
Where my dreams wait for me, where the river always flows
This is home surely, as my senses tell me
This is where I won't be alone, for this is where I know it's home
For this is where I know it's home
For this is where I know I'm home
