After many months of preparation and hard work, my first children’s book titled “The Three Muttsketeers” is ready for the shelves! It is not without trepidation as I venture into this book project with a lot of naysayers telling me that self publishing is not an easy task. I have forwarded my manuscripts to countless illustrators and publishers, with many of them turning their heads away. It has been a difficult journey for a first-time children’s book author like me.
This is a tale which revolves around the friendship of three dogs – the protagonist being my pet dog “Ah Bee”. In an imaginary relm of the dog’s fantasy world, the three of them are bestowed with gifts to talk, think and feel like humans. They met each other on the internet (their version of facebook aka “furrybook”), became friends and called themselves “The Three (Mutt)sketeers”. The first version of this book appeared in 2012 when I did photoshop collages of the three dogs using my own photo library and some randomly picked images from the internet. I followed up with writing up a proper story for the collages and shared these on Ah Bee’s facebook page. And the story was born.
For the purpose of publishing, I have engaged Rixou Productions to illustrate and re-create the photo collages while keeping as much details as to the original version of this book. As this is a non-profit book venture, I have decided to donate most of the sale proceeds to animal charities.
During the preparation stage for this book, I have approached Andy from Save Our Street Dogs and Christine from Causes For Animals Singapore. Both of these angels lauded my book project and gave me confidence in my pursuit of my book dream. I also wish to thank my personal friend and medical school classmate, Jonathan, who has given me tips and ideas on how to distribute my book. I thank them for their support.
